The post-holder will join our Specialty Registrar rota to support the provision of a comprehensive cardiac service to the county of Gloucestershire.
This is a locum post for 12 months. The post is full-time in Cardiology with no GIM on call. Currently there is no overnight or weekend working but plans are in place to start a middle grade rota for weekend days and nights that the successful applicant will be expected to participate in. Job share applicants are welcome. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis.
The post-holder will share responsibilities with his/her fellow cardiologists at GRH for the provision of inpatient care within the registrar of the week model, acceptance of referrals, outpatient clinic provision and appropriate imaging and reporting duties.

Main duties of the job
4 Inpatients - Care of CCU/ Cardiac Ward patients and Cardiology consultation to Acute Medicine / other non-cardiac IPs (middle grade rota - 10 on rota currently).
4 Outpatients - 1-2 clinics per week
4 Dedicated referral ward round with consultant
4 Assisting the Consultants with relevant procedures and investigations.
4 Maintaining a portfolio and logbook of procedures.
4 Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings.
4 Participation in Mortality & Morbidity meetings and case reviews.
4 Training in echo, angiography, pacing is possible dependent on the needs of the specialty registrars
The post holder will be supervised / mentored by the consultant team. They will participate in annual appraisal and will be provided with support and guidance for revalidation.

Current Cardiac Service
InpatientsCurrently there are 39 dedicated in-patient beds at GRH following centralisation of the cardiology service, supported by specialist nursing, rehabilitation and other ancillary services.
Cardiac technical support and facilitiesA full range of non-invasive cardiac investigations are provided on the main Trust sites. Technician staffing/provision is managed on a cross county basis by Cardiac Investigations Managers, Tim Ruck & Sam King. The department is staffed by a complement of 18 WTE physiologists and 7 cardiographers cross-county. Investigations provided include:
- Transthoracic, transoesophageal, contrast, and stress echo services
- Full device support services including remote monitoring/interrogation
- Exercise stress testing (technician led service)
- Dynamic BP and ECG monitoring including ZioPatch and AliveCor devices, and ILR service
- Access to imaging data is available via a Trust-side digital PACS system
Cardiac Catheter LabsIn addition to non-invasive facilities, the Trust runs two adjacent Siemens cardiac labs on the Gloucester site, with a third lab (Canon) being built and due to open December 2024. A new day case unit is also being built adjacent to the cardiac cath labs. Staff undertake day case nursing and nurse led pre-assessment, as well as rotating through both labs providing a skilled and flexible workforce supporting an efficient patient journey and workflow.
