Job summary

To strategically lead the Trauma Orthopaedic service, alongside the General Manager and Specialty Director

To lead the nursing team in an engaged, collaborative, cohesive, pro-active and progressive manner to maintain excellent standards of patient care and service delivery.

To deliver and role model effective, transformational leadership and operational decision making within the services.

To work in manner that promotes kind and compassionate leadership and on-going professional development of self and others

To work collaboratively with the senior teams for all services outlined to drive patient safety and quality forwards through the development and implementation of service and quality improvement projects.

To be an active member of the surgical divisional and trust wide senior team, supporting and leading on operational and quality initiatives and improvements as appropriate

Main duties of the job

- To provide transformational leadership by facilitating all specialities in their portfolio to follow the Pathway to Excellence principles and in turn deliver structural empowerment, continual exemplary professional practice along with innovation & improvements.

- To work in alignment with the Matron handbook (NHS England and NHS improvement 2020) ensuring focus on all elements outlined in this document https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Matrons_Handbook.pdf

- To provide compassionate leadership ethos of attending, understanding, empathising and helping. They will be a presence to who staff, patients, families and carers can rely, to ensure the fundamentals of care are delivered effectively and efficiently.

-To promote a workforce environment where staff feel they are autonomous, in control with a sense of belonging as well as the competence to deliver safe and quality clinical care applying the ABC of compassionate leadership.

- To provide and support professional and inclusive leadership, and mentoring to nurses, midwives and ward managers. Acting as a role model within the Division and the Trust ensuring that competence in managerial and clinical practice is both developed and maintained as well as offering opportunities to all.

  • United Kingdom recognised Degree in Nursing
  • Masters Level Study or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of professional portfolio and registration revalidation

Desirable

  • Completion of a recognised QI award

Experience

Essential

  • Experience (through placement or employment) of working in an acute clinical environment
  • Experience of leading and managing change
  • Understanding of budgets and financial sustainability

  • Previous experience in a relevant speciality
