Job summary

AHP Preceptorship and Foundation Support Lead, Band 8a (22.5 hours a week) Flexible working required

- To lead and facilitate the provision of a high quality AHP Preceptorship and Foundation Support Programme, which enables a sense of belonging and empowers new to role AHP's to grow in confidence as autonomous practitioners. This programme will align to national standards as well as the trust's vision of Best Care for Everyone

- To take the lead for developing, evaluating and updating the AHP Preceptorship and Foundation Support Programme in line with national guidance, including completing the self-assessment against the national AHP Preceptorship framework and developing an action plan, in order to meet the diverse needs of all professions included in the programmes.

-To demonstrate a highly visible, compassionate and coaching leadership style which is consistent with the Trust values, building and maintaining effective working relationships with managers, staff and external organisations, and to promote and develop opportunities for AHP's in order to improve recruitment and retention

Main duties of the job

1. EDUCATION AND TRAINING Co-ordinate, deliver and monitor AHP preceptorship training to ensure a high standard across all topics which meet the requirements of all professions

2. IMPROVING QUALITY AND DEVELOPING PRACTICE Lead on the evaluation of the preceptorship programme and ensure changes are made based on evaluation from preceptee, preceptors and managers. Regularly review education and training delivered to ensure it remains relevant, innovative and underpinned with research

3. LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT. Take the lead role in the development and ongoing improvement of the AHP Preceptorship programme

4. PROFESSIONAL/CLINICAL PRACTICE. To take on responsibility for own personal development and to support the development and supervision of others by developing and maintaining up to date specialist knowledge within education practice. Maintain clinical knowledge and expertise at an enhanced level in own profession

5. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT. To be responsible for maintenance of accurate records including appropriate electronic systems with regard to the preceptorship programme and individual staff's development.

The Trust has four clinical Divisions, Medicine, Surgery, Women's & Children and Diagnostics & Specialties. The majority of AHPs sit within the D&S Division with the remaining in Surgery. This post will sit within the AHP Management structure within D&S, reporting directly to the Divisional Director for AHPs.

The post-holder will work closely with the education leads, workforce lead and managers of all allied health professions in the trust as well as the practice development team for nursing.

The post-holder will develop and maintain strong, productive working relationships across our Trust, being a visible and accessible presence, and promoting inclusion of AHP's at every opportunity.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or equivalent in one of the Allied Health Professions and registered with the HCPC
  • Evidence of appropriate ongoing professional development including post graduate study at MSc level
  • Education and teaching qualifications - minimum PGCert

Desirable

  • Training/qualification in leadership
  • Advanced communication skills training
  • Training/qualification in coaching and facilitating action learning sets

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive clinical experience at a Senior grade within the NHS, with relevant experience in training and supervision of others
  • Extensive experience of education and training, specifically teaching, facilitating and giving presentations
  • Evidence of extensive experience of supervising/assessing students and staff

Desirable

  • Evidence of change management in clinical practice
  • Evidence of promoting and facilitating research, service improvement and audit
