Job summary

This is an opportunity to join a forward thinking radiology team in an outstanding area of the country. The posts have arisen as a consequence of staffing changes and expansion.

Experience in general cross-sectional imaging and acute radiology are essential. We are seeking colleagues who will enhance and complement our established team of 31 radiologists, offering a wide range of specialist and general reporting and intervention. Interests in Thoracic, Urology, MSK, Gynecological, and Pediatric imaging would be of particular value. However, we would seriously consider other subspecialty interests in line with the Trust's needs.

Main duties of the job

  • The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department.
  • To examine and treat patients within the Department.
  • To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff and to support radiographic staff.
  • To be on an emergency list for exceptionally rare out of hours IT emergencies when the N3 connection to outsource reports is unavailable.
  • To participate in extended radiology working "UTOPIA" in weekday evenings until 20:00 and at weekends & bank holidays 08:30 to 17:30 as required.
  • To actively participate in an MDT of the post holder's subspecialty interest.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The department of radiology is based predominantly on 2 sites - Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital. Currently there are 33 Consultant radiologists. We work extended days Monday to Friday until 8pm and work on site at weekends 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

The departments are busy with general and specialty imaging and in 2020/21 completed over 83,000 CT exams, 23,000 MRI exams, 50,000 NOUS exams, 26,000 Obstetric US, 4,500 Nuclear Medicine exams, 10,500 Angio/fluro exams and 161,500 radiology exams.

We have 6 CT scanners Canon 64, Toshiba 80, 2 x Canon 128 and 2 x Canon 320 cardiac compatible, 4 static MRI scanners (GE, Canon & Siemens) and access to a relocatable MR scanner and a relocatable CT scanner.

PET CT is provided through a partnership with Linton House. There is broad general radiographic, ultrasound Dexa and nuclear medicine provision. The department has a Philips PACS and HSS RIS.

Staffing includes:

135 WTE Radiographers

19.5 WTE Nurses

50.5 WTE A&C staff

  • Full GMC registration
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR (CP) (proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview)
  • CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher (Radiology) qualification

Desirable

  • Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty
