Sister/Charge Nurse, Mayhill Unit - Band 6

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, motivated and dynamic nurse to join our Day Surgery Unit leadership team. The Day Surgery Unit provides pre and post operative care for patients undergoing a range of surgical procedures on a day case basis. We also care for patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures. All surgical admissions, both in-patient stay and and day cases are admitted for surgery through our Unit. The post holder will be required to take charge of a shift. They must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team and deliver high quality, evidence led care to patients. You will also take responsibility for the development of our team of employees under the supervision of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. You must have Day Surgery or Surgical Nurse experience. The environment is challenging, exciting and supportive and facilitates the development of specialised skills. You will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled and motivated team that includes Nurses, HCA's, clerical staff, Surgeons, Anaesthetists and Theatre orderlies. Our Unit currently provides a service Monday to Friday 07:00-21:00

Main duties of the job

Develop and apply clinical leadership skills and maintain credibility through practice and professional update. Work closely with the Unit's Manager and Surgical teams to ensure that the Unit's Standard Operating Procedure is adhered to. Act as coordinator to streamline communication with other members of the Surgical multidisciplinary team by having a regular presence within the Unit and within working hours. To be aware of hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are obseved.To develop time management skills and the ability to prioritise Nursing Care and patient safety to ensure that the Unit runs both efficiently and effectively. To manage off-duty requests and take part in our sickness management process.

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with appropriate teaching/assessing qualification with a minimum of four years post registration experience.
  • Evidence of post registration qualification/equivalent.

  • Enhanced levels of dexterity and accuracy pertaining to clinical skills.
  • Demonstrate professional leadership and act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge.
