Job summary

We are excited to launch our new Emergency Department trust grade roles at Gloucestershire Hospitals. These roles recognise the increasing ambitions of our staff and the desire to develop 'portfolio' careers whilst maintaining a core, supportive role.

We are privileged to offer a wealth of expertise in our Emergency Departments. This has allowed us to provide numerous fellowship opportunities for candidates, detailed below. These fellowships incorporate 20% protected, non-clinical time, alongside emergency medicine. Full-time emergency medicine trust grades also welcomed.

Main duties of the job

  • Fellowship in trauma: Work with our ED Trauma Lead to develop ED trauma pathways in a Level 2 Trauma Unit. Undertake, quality improvement, become involved in TARN.
  • Fellowship in ultrasound: Work with the Severn Ultrasound lead, who is based in Gloucestershire and works towards Level 1 accreditation. Opportunities to assist with regional Ultrasound days, deliver teaching, observe outpatient clinics.
  • Fellowship in frailty: Work with our ED Frailty Lead within the department and on the Frailty Assessment Unit. Shadow the Home Assessment Team, undertake quality improvement including silver trauma.
  • Fellowship in management: Work with our Clinical Leads and Chief Registrar. Dedicated time for quality improvement and audit. Opportunities to lead quality improvement/ undertake Silver QI/ shadow leadership meetings and become involved in trust core goals.

We provide acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Maternity Services are also provided at Stroud Maternity Hospital. We remain the major provider of secondary care services in the area and analysis shows that for Gloucestershire we are the leading acute healthcare provider by a significant margin.

  • Fellowship in education: Develop teaching resources and sessions for medical students and Foundation Trainees. Link with our ED based Academy Dean for Bristol University and Foundation Programme Director.
  • Fellowship in sustainability: Work with ED Sustainability lead to develop a new initiative to improve sustainability within the department.

Not only do we recognise the desire to develop clinical excellence in our staff but also the requirements for a sustainable work-life balance. The rota team have developed a new, annualised rota system, to ensure our doctors get time off when they want it. This incorporates annual leave, Bank Holiday time-in-lieu and 10 days study leave pa.

The department is committed to education and development. All trust grades will be allocated and Education Supervisor and encouraged to attend protected, weekly teaching sessions. Alongside this, a study budget of £500, means we aim to deliver on all your educational needs.
