Job summary
Are you Registered Adult Nurse with excellent nursing skills who is passionate about providing safe, effective, personalised care to women and families? Do you have an interest in family care provision?
A very exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT), where there are approximately 6000 births per year.
Our Women's Centre accommodates a Delivery Suite, which undertakes approximately 4,000 births a year and provides a high level of maternity care for women, who require obstetric, neonatal or anaesthetic services.
We also have 3 fantastic Birthing Centres, which provide midwifery led care for approximately 30% (2000) of women in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud.
We are looking to recruit registered adult nurses who may not necessarily have experience in midwifery/maternity, but have an interest in family care provision. You will need to deliver compassionate, professional, skilled and effective person-centred care. Using up-to-date, evidence-based nursing care and working within a multidisciplinary team. You will help develop collaborative, needs-based care plans through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Main duties of the job
You will be an integral part of our midwifery team, providing care from the moment you arrive. You will work collaboratively with the midwifery, obstetric and theatre team to meet the nursing needs of women across the maternity service.
You will have the opportunity to deliver both medical and surgical nursing care to our adult service-users, which will include;
- Drug rounds
- Post operative care
- Wound care
- Bladder/catheter care
- Phlebotomy
- Cannulation
- Diabetes management
- ECG recording
- Care of high dependency patients (if appropriate)
(And other clinical roles linked to department)
This role will include supporting the care of women within maternity services but also care of women within the department with additional nursing care needs.
You will be able to recognise changes in a woman's condition which require the intervention of others and escalate appropriately, whilst utilising your skills within your sphere of practice.
About us
As our most valuable asset, we understand that happy, fulfilled staff will offer their best, and we aim to achieve this by providing a supportive team approach.
We have a large team comprising midwives, maternity care assistants, maternity support workers and obstetricians, we clearly link in with other members of the wider multidisciplinary team.
We have a comprehensive mandatory training programme which includes PROMPT training. Nurses working within our department will be expected to attend PROMPT study days. We will also provide opportunities for you to develop personally and enhance your skills.
We have several shared decision-making councils, giving all staff a voice within the department.
The Trust offers generous annual leave allowance, the opportunity to work bank shifts, access to the excellent NHS Pension Scheme, discounts for local shops, restaurants and services, access to our health and wellbeing hub, access to our two on site nurseries, flexible working options, discounted public transport and rewards and recognition schemes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to facilitate and demonstrate collaborative working within a new setting with nurses supporting Maternity care.
