Job summary
To take overall responsibility at all times and be the 'Person in Charge' for the management and delivery of high-quality childcare in the nursery setting. To be responsible for complying with and exceeding The Early Years Foundation Stage, Trust policies and all other associated regulatory bodies whilst maintaining a cost neutral position. To lead and manage a team of staff with a high regard for Health, Safety and Child Protection. To support the nursery team delivering a quality service for eligible NHS employees which supports the Trusts Human Resources Delivery Plan.
Main duties of the job
NNEB/NVQ in childcare and education/early years care and education at level 3 or equivalent (which is full and relevant, and defined by the CWDC) Level 4 desirable but not essential.
Extensive years post qualification experience
Appropriate years management experience in a childcare setting with the ability to lead, motivate, mentor and guide staff
Paediatric First Aid
Gloucestershire Safeguarding Childcare Board
To attend Early Years Foundation Stage training from any source when accessible
To have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of The Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework
Basic Food Hygiene
Trust Health and Safety Training plus risk assessment
Enhanced CRB essential
Suitable Person application with Ofsted
Trust in house appraisal, waste management, P2P, fire warden, mandatory, harassment and bullying training
Excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills for a range of contexts and audiences

1.0 To be the Person in Charge and ensure the statutory requirements of The Early Years Foundation Stage and all other regulatory bodies are met at all times. To implement nursery policies and procedures and hold a high regard for Health, Safety and Child Protection, review ineffective practice and ensure quality assurance is met in all aspects of the nursery setting. Considerable flexibility is required to meet the changing needs of the nursery.
2.0 Together with the Trustwide Childcare Manager develop all nursery documents i.e. policy, procedure, handbooks, the office procedure document etc. to reflect new initiatives.
3.0 To actively promote good working practice and hold a high regard for the delivery of quality, cost effective and flexible childcare. To promote the nursery as a staff facility for eligible groups of NHS employees. Evaluate performance through communication with parents e.g. using questionnaires and meetings and a quality assurance scheme to hold a high regard and have a positive commitment to excellent communication in all aspects of role.
4.0 To oversee the curriculum development, principles into practice - Early Years Foundation Stage holding a high regard for individual parent wishes. Promote good working practice ensuring children have the opportunity to learn and develop consistent warm relationships with staff.
5.0 Recruit, manage and mentor staff. Through annual appraisal support professional development. Guide the team and students and ensure that they are encouraged to reach maximum potential. Ensure training programmes are developed and maintained including Trust mandatory training.
6.0 Actively promote diversity both in relation to staff and children ensuring that a culturally sensate environment is maintained at all times.
7.0 Together with the Trust Childcare Manager manage the nursery budget, working closely with the Finance Department to ensure best use of available resources and a break even position at the end of each financial year. To access streams of funding that become available. To order resources, authorise weekly paid bank staff time sheets and submit to Payroll, complete F200s. To check the monthly ledger prepared by Finance.
8.0 The post holder may exceptionally be contacted out of hours in unplanned circumstances. The post holder will be required to work opposite shifts to the Deputy to maximise management cover during opening hours and have responsibility for opening and closing the nursery and the security of the nursery.
9.0 Actively promote diversity both in relation to childcare provision generally and in the nurseries, ensuring that a culturally sensitive environment is maintained.
10.0 To provide initial management of any complaints related to the nursery, according to Trust and Nursery protocols.
