Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a finance manager within our Trust. We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated individual to join our finance team in providing a high level of finance support to the Women & Children division.
The role is substantively a Band 6 position job share, and as such this role is also a fantastic development opportunity for a driven candidate to come in at Band 5 and progress to Band 6. To progress, a development plan will be followed, and once the set objectives have been achieved the successful candidate would advance to Band 6.
This role is part of a wider team that provides comprehensive advice and support to the divisions within the Trust.
Working closely with the finance team and divisional team, this role will provide you with an opportunity to support a division which has a wide variety of interesting specialties and to be part of a forward looking and innovative finance team and the HFMA South West finance team of the year for 2021.
Main duties of the job
This role will support with financial performance of a portfolio of budgets, production of timely and accurate budget statements/ reports, service developments and the trust financial sustainability agenda, ensure ledger accuracy, support with contracts and provision of financial advice to budget holders.
You will be qualified to degree or AAT level or CIMA/CCAB part qualified. You will need to have experience in a financial role.
You will have strong inter-personal skills, experience of MS office packages, a team player, proactive, able to work to tight deadlines and the ability to work independently.
Whilst NHS experience is desirable, this role is suitable for any candidate with a good understanding and experience of financial management.

Under the leadership/guidance and support from the Finance Business Partner:
Budgetary Control
- Proactively contribute to the management of the financial performance of a portfolio of budgets, identifying key financial pressures and appropriate corrective action.
- Ensure production of accurate, complete and timely monthly budget statements for a portfolio of budget areas, together with appropriate interpretation and analysis of variances.
- Provide full Management Accounting Service for a range of cost centres with limited supervision.
- Provide Budget Holders with accurate financial information to assist them in controlling and monitoring their financial resources. This may include production of reports, attendance at meetings, or any ad hoc costing/investigation as requested.
- Preparation and supervision of input of budget and expenditure journals into the ledger system to agreed timetables.
- Analysis and explanation of budget expenditure variances for Management and in liaison with budget holders.
- Ensuring accurate representation of budget expenditure position in liaison with the Divisional Finance Business Partner.
- Maintenance of an agreed programme of quality checks to ensure validity of information held in the ledger.
- Production and analysis of reports and highly complex confidential financial information from appropriate systems to answer ad hoc enquiries.
Band 6 only
- This will include assisting budget holders in planning service developments, identifying and achieving targets and developing business cases.
- Support budget holders in the identification and monitoring of cost improvement plans and income generation schemes.

- Assistance in Budget Holders liaison and training.
- Proactively develop and maintain system notes for the section.
- Ensure appropriate income is received for areas of responsibility including recharges to other NHS organisations.
