GLOUCESTERSHIRE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST CLINICAL FELLOW (F3/St1/2) IN OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY
An exciting opportunity to develop skills and experience in O&G, particular expertise in early pregnancy and delivery suite. The post is not recognised for training but offers similar experience as the ST1 and F2s who share the rota. GRH has no ST1-2 trainees in O & G and this means that if the post-holder wishes, they will have opportunities for excellent experience both on delivery suite and in theatre and if they wish will be supported to become confident and competent at uncomplicated instrumental deliveries and Caesarean sections and / or simple outpatient gynaecological procedures. There is also an active Quality Improvement Team and opportunities for participating in research. EWTD compliant 1:8 rota.
The last post-holder took advantage of these opportunities and was successful in acquiring the part 1 MRCOG and in securing a training number in the Severn Deanery at the national interviews. produced project reports, delivered training and teaching to medical students and Foundation doctors and is contributing to a national guidance at the RCOG.
Gloucester Royal Hospital is a busy District General Hospital. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department has specialist services in gynaecological oncology, fertility, fetal medicine and Urogynaecology.

Main duties of the job

DUTIES OF THE POST
Undertaking ward rounds as required.

Participating in the training of Medical Students attached to the firm as required.
Dictating discharge summaries and associated correspondence to General Practitioners etc.
Liaison with patients relatives as required.
Participation in perinatal morbidity, audit and Journal Club meetings
Participating in operating lists
TRAINING
There is a Post-graduate Medical Centre adjacent to Gloucester Royal Hospital. There is also a general medical library which is available at all times and equipped to handle literature searches etc., with CD-ROM and Medline facilities. The Speciality Tutor is Dr Rebecca Swingler.
This post is an ideal opportunity to develop gynaecology and obstetric skills and experience at SHO level. It is suitable for doctors who want practical experience in the speciality either before deciding on their career path, or alternatively to improve their chances of selection onto Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at national recruitment. Alternatively, should the post holder wish to become a GP with a specialist interest in Womens health, this is an ideal opportunity to develop specific skills and knowledge for this and the time table can be altered depending on the post holders ultimate career aims.
