Job summary

Applications are invited for this non-training research fellow post specialising in Medical Retina research to join the Ophthalmology Team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Research team as a Research Fellow assisting mainly with our research trial portfolio of commercial and non-commercial studies.The postholder will be required to support the development of research projects for the Gloucestershire Diabetic Retinopathy Research Group which currently include the following studies:ALLUVIUM, BARDENAS, HORNBILL, NEON, MACUSTAR, EYE DMI, RHONE-X, AVONELLE-X, EVIAN, MEERKAT, AIDED.There will be the opportunity to develop abstracts for meetings and there may be the opportunity to have other learning opportunities within Medical Retina depending on the needs of the individual.

Main duties of the job

This position is 12 months in the first instance. The Medical Retina fellow will be expected to fully participate in departmental clinical research, help run trials, from setting up trials, help in patient recruitment, coordination and smooth delivery of trials. Other duties involve data gathering, analysis and help write up of publications and presentations. They will also help in departmental Audits ensuring completion of audit cycles.Applicants should have completed a minimum of their Foundation training (Year 1 and 2) and ST1-ST2 training in Ophthalmology and hold full registration with the General Medical Council. The post is suited to applicants who wish to pursue a career in ophthalmology and feel that their curriculum vitae needs to be enhanced by research experience.

Key duties will include: To participate in audits and research activities within the medical retina service including help with research trials Identify sources of funding and contribute to process of securing funds Write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings To participate in teaching activities To participate in some clinical activities
