Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates hospitals on our two main sites in Cheltenham and Gloucester, and we're one of the largest NHS trusts in the country.

Our workforce of almost 8,000 staff provide high quality emergency, elective and specialist care across a range of clinical areas.

We are looking to appoint experienced Band 6 registered nurses to support the Discharge Lounge at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHSFT, this is a super opportunity to be involved in:

- supporting capacity & flow through the emergency and planned care pathways by releasing inpatient bed capacity earlier in the day.

- enhancing the patient journey by providing a safe environment for patients to wait away from the ward area while the final parts of their discharge/transfer of care are being arranged.

Your support is pivotal to the ongoing development and success of the Discharge Lounge.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be:

- To function as a competent clinical practitioner within the discharge Lounge. To deliver direct patient care whilst, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice

- To deputise for the Senior Sister on a regular basis to support the functioning of the lounge to deliver a smooth transition from hospital to home or other specified destination for all patients.

- To provide a positive, respectful working environment for colleagues: acting as a compassionate leader with a focus on the health and wellbeing, engagement and development of all colleagues

Our Operational Hours are: 07:00 - 19:30 across 7 days a week (The time of closure is regularly reviewed to support Trust wide capacity and demand)

Clinical Practice

As a Registered Nurse the expectation is that, with adequate training, supervision and assessment, you will be able to;

- Adhere to the NMC code of practice at all times and operate within the NMC standards of proficiency for Registered Nurses

- To act as a resource and support nursing teams in the care delivery of patients across specialities

- Responsible for the administration of clinical procedures/treatments within the specialist area, acting as an expert resource for the nursing team.

- To effectively input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems, specifically Sunrise, Safe Care and other specialist systems and be able to advise and support other team members in their use.
