Job summary

A vacancy has arisen for a bank band 7 specialist optometrist to join the optometry team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS foundation trust. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic optometrist with an interest in glaucoma to work alongside a consultant ophthalmologist and other specialist optometrists in a glaucoma clinic that runs once a month at Stroud General Hospital. An ability to work in multi-disciplinary team and a flexible approach is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the team of Specialist Optometrists who currently participate in the co-management of patients with glaucoma clinics. The clinic provides local specialist care for those in Stroud and surrounding areas and include a patient mix of those with mild and advanced glaucoma and complex patients with co-morbidities and specialist needs. Optometrists working in the clinic will assess and manage the patients with the support of a consultant ophthalmologist.

About us

The successful candidate will join the team of two other specialist optometrists and a consultant ophthalmologist with clinic support provided by orthoptists, nurses and HCAs. The Ophthalmology unit within Gloucestershire Hospitals is recognised nationally as being at the forefront of Ophthalmology within the UK. The unit is highly regarded for clinical training and is active in research.

Previous hospital or equivalent clinical experience is highly desirable with a appropriate years post qualification experience. Applications from candidates with post graduate glaucoma qualifications (eg. College of Optometrists professional certificate in glaucoma) has been requested but we will consider candidate currently working towards a qualification.
