Job summary

Are you a compassionate, organised Psychology graduate looking to make a difference to how a busy specialist service can best support their patients? we are pleased to offer a new Assistant Psychologist post into our service.

You will become part of the Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS) with psychology, dietetic, nursing, physician time and an admin team. This post will also include working into an exciting newly formed multi-disciplinary triage team as a pilot project within SWMS. This pilot aims to also contain a G.P, dietetic assistant, mental health nurse, with dedicated support from management and an admin post.

The role will involve screening referrals for suitability, liaising with services and patients, collating and interpreting patient data including questionnaires, developing waiting list initiatives including a digital offer, and supporting psychology groups in the wider specialist weight management service.

We welcome applications from individuals with skills in service evaluation and the collation, management and interpretation of data as well as an interest in understanding the needs of people with complex mental and / or physical health needs who request a weight management service and require specialist input.

Main duties of the job

Working under the supervision of a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Manager, to support and assist with:

The design of audit and evaluation work associated with the pilot Triage Team

Vetting new referrals and those on the waiting list, including collating and assessing patient questionnaire data, following up with patients and professionals to aid decision-making, being part of shared decision-making including referrals on to appropriate services or the Treatment Team

Creating and updating reports for this pilot for the service and commissioners

Development and pilot of waiting list initiatives to support patients to be best prepared to make use of our service including the development of a digital offer such as self-directed modules

Supporting Psychology group work

Support the ongoing development, delivery, evaluation of a pilot Triage Team as part of the Specialist Weight Management Service

To create and maintain appropriate databases to collate data from referrals and decision-making including patient journeys

To support the vetting and assessment of referrals using patient questionnaire data, medical data, structured tools and where appropriate direct patient contact.

To be part of MDT decision-making about the suitability of patients referred and any referrals on to other mental health services required

Support the ongoing initiatives for self-management and preparation for treatment

To assist with the preparation and delivery of service audits.

To aid preparation of a digital offer including psychoeducation materials in written and video format and development of modules for self-directed learning

To evaluate the impact of these initiatives

To assist in the collation of reports

To assist with service evaluation planning

Contribute to the development and maintenance of departmental policies and pathways

Research and Development Activity

To assist in the undertaking of any research projects on a supervised basis.

To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinicians in evidence-based practice.

Equipment and Machinery

Computer/ laptop/ PowerPoint projector for database, research, e-mail, Internet, presentations.

Computerised and Audio-visual recording equipment for use in assessment and specialist treatment programmes.

Psychological assessment tests and associated materials.

Expected to have knowledge of manual handling and other equipment within the area.

Professional Responsibilities

To be responsible for the planning and prioritisation of own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the supervising psychologist.

To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
