A rare opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term position for Lead Practice Educator Radiographer at GHNHSFT. Working alongside the modality leads, the post holder must be committed and driven to providing a high quality student experience, and developing and growing our workforce to be fit for the future, and dedicated to delivering the highest possible standards of care in the Imaging department.

The post holder is responsible for:

Providing and implementing a robust educational training and development strategy and programme for staff within the department, responding to educational agendas within the department, trust-wide, regionally and nationally.

Overseeing the undergraduate programmes across multiple HEI's

Providing managerial and professional clinical leadership

Working with section leads to deliver effective management of staff and facilities, and innovative use of available resources

Actively contributing to the delivery of an efficient, effective and safe service

Implementing and maintaining policy and service development

Deputising for the Professional Lead as appropriate

Providing expert practical assistance and technical advice to staff and performing clinical duties as required.

Understanding and contributing to the operational running of the department to ensure the educational plan meets with the requirements of the department

Main duties of the job

Be a member of the Imaging Management team and as such responsible for the strategic, operational and safe delivery of the educational training programme.

High level management of the overall staffing skillsets and training needs analysis

Responsible for identifying radiographic professional development needs and areas for innovation, responding to national agenda, ICB and Trust drivers and developing these alongside the professional Lead

Responsible for adherence to all Ionising and Non-ionising Radiation Regulations.

Using your clinical expertise, you will drive the service innovatively to provide high standards of care and be an ambassador for practice development.

About us

GHNHSFT is the second largest trust in the South West, and manages services across 10 sites in Gloucestershire including 2 large District General Hospitals. The Imaging department offers a broad range of sub-specialty work including adult and paediatric radiography, trauma and orthopaedic exams, mobile imaging, cardiac and interventional procedures, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI & Ultrasound. This is an especially exciting time to join us as the Cheltenham department has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme with all modalities benefiting from £6.5m equipment replacement investment.

Our plans for this year include significant investment in the growth of the Image Guided Interventional Service (IGIS), and operationalising the Community Diagnostic Centre, as well as continued development of our 5 year strategy towards further advanced Radiographic practice and quality improvements.

The Directorate is innovative in developing the service whilst remaining responsive to the needs of patients and ensuring the development and education of staff, with scope to progress in any area of interest. An established preceptorship programme is in place for newly qualified staff.

We are a placement site with high numbers of students and trainees, and once qualified, you will be supported to develop your skills to feel confident to supervise, instruct and train.

Service Delivery

  • Contribute to and actively pursue delivery of the objectives of the Imaging service, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services within available resources
  • Work in conjunction with the Professional Lead, general manager and the hospital management to plan and implement an acceptable and appropriate Imaging service in all locations.
  • Responsible for ongoing analysis of the Diagnostic Imaging Service, and devising appropriate educational and training plans in line with demand future proofing
  • Responsible for ensuring staff within the Diagnostic Imaging department have adequate and appropriate skills and training to ensure deliverable service.
  • Work in conjunction with the General Manager organising, providing and developing a 24-hour clinical Imaging service whilst being sensitive to staff expectations and financial constraints.
  • Able to conduct a range of examinations within the clinical speciality upon a range of patient types, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of multidisciplinary team(s), in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. Using clinical information available ensure that the appropriate imaging technique is performed in accordance with best practice and that the images are diagnostic.
  • Suggest referrals to other clinical teams according to departmental protocols and best practice in order to ensure appropriate ongoing treatment.
