This 2 year programme will, through specialised modules, build upon knowledge gained in a first degree, providing apprentices with Radiographic knowledge and an understanding of professional practice, intensive training within the imaging departments across Gloucestershire, and the skills and knowledge to progress to full qualification and to work with patients in a healthcare setting.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate commitment to the apprenticeship training study requirements, completing training activities and assessments in the given timescale. You will be working across the 2 acute sites in Gloucester & Cheltenham, developing clinical skills and competencies essential to the role, as well as across the community sites within the county, and the newly designed Community Diagnostic Centre due to open in Jan 2024

Main duties of the job

To undertake a structured programme of learning including personal study, academic work, placement learning and assessment leading to the award of the end point assessment and the MSc in Diagnostic Radiography Apprenticeship.

Apprentices will learn to be responsible for the safe use of imaging equipment and the safe conduct of examinations, including the radiation protection of patients, themselves, staff and visitors.

Once qualified, this post provides experience in all aspects of general radiography, trauma & orthopaedics, CT, digital fluoroscopy and interventional/cardiac radiography. There is opportunity for a lot of variety and excellent career prospects to enable you to consolidate your skills in a supportive environment.

Participating in 24/7 service

About us

GHNHSFT is the second largest in the South West, and manages services across 10 sites in Gloucestershire including 2 large District General Hospitals. The Imaging department offers a broad range of sub-specialty work including adult and paediatric radiography, trauma and orthopaedic exams, mobile imaging, cardiac and interventional procedures, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI & Ultrasound. This is an especially exciting time to join us as the Cheltenham department has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme with all modalities benefiting from £6.5m equipment replacement investment.

Our plans for this year include significant investment in the growth of the Image Guided Interventional Service (IGIS), and operationalising the Community Diagnostic Centre, as well as continued development of our 5 year strategy towards further advanced Radiographic practice and quality improvements.

The Directorate is innovative in developing the service whilst remaining responsive to the needs of patients and ensuring the development and education of staff, with scope to progress in any area of interest. An established preceptorship programme is in place for newly qualified staff.

We are a placement site with high numbers of students and trainees, and once qualified, you will be supported to develop your skills to feel confident to supervise, instruct and train.

We offer excellent bank rates, with long and short term flexible opportunities available across all days and shifts.
