Job summary
We are looking for a transformational and compassionate leader who is committed to leading and developing our services for children and young people in Gloucestershire.
The post holder will have both strategic and operational responsibilities working closely with the Divisional Director for Quality and Nursing, to ensure patient safety, service quality and excellent patient experience are maintained consistently.
You will need to be a registered children's nurse, with relevant experience and skills. Preferably you will be educated to Masters level, or currently studying for this. You will need to be highly motivated, forward thinking and innovative with a passion for transformation and the delivery of high quality paediatric services. This role requires you to be an excellent communicator, with the ability to provide exemplary leadership that in turn creates a positive culture for the team.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a leader who will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high quality care within our paediatric department.
You will:
- Provide transformational leadership by facilitating all specialities in their portfolio to follow the Pathway to Excellence principles
- Provide compassionate leadership through being visible, accessible and influential.
- Promote a workforce environment where staff feel autonomous, in control with a sense of belonging as well as the competence to deliver safe and quality clinical care.
- Provide professional and inclusive leadership to nurses and ward managers, acting as a role model within the Division.
- Provide assurance to the Divisional Director of Quality and Nursing on the quality of services
- Ensure that there is continuous quality improvement (QI) and that services are tailored to the needs of children, young people and families using digital information systems to develop care delivery.
- To take responsibility and accountability for specific clinical services within the Division

Our inpatients are cared for in the Children and Young Peoples centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and we hold outpatient clinics at both Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals, and at a range of community and special school sites.
The Children's Centre is made up of:
30 inpatient beds
4 bedded oncology unit
4 bedded High Dependency Unit
6 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit
8 bedded Paediatric Day Unit
Paediatric emergency department
We have close working relationships with the Trusts emergency department, in order to ensure a smooth pathway for unscheduled attendances. To this end we also work closely with a range of community service providers and commissioners.
