Job summary
We plan to recruit a substantive Consultant Urologist, with a special interest in lower urinary tract symptoms. The post holder will, with support, lead our LUTS pathways. We already have nationally recognised day case pathways. We currently offer Plasma + TURP, PAE, Urolift, and HOLEP. The department hope to expand this offering in the near future.
The post holder, will also contribute to general urology work and the 1 in 10 Consultant Oncall rota ( some cross cover with Hereford County at weekends)
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Urology service both to the acute and elective service. The appointee, should be independant in diagnostics including local anaesthetic prostate biopsy and core urological procedures. It is essential that the candidate has an experience of day case lower urinary tract surgery. The department aims to start a further BPH procedure in 2023 and it is hoped the the candidate will develop this new skill with supervision from a consultant colleague.

This post will help us develop a centre of excellence for prostate care. We already have an X and Xi for robotic cancer surgery. Over the next 6 months new dedicated urology outpatient facilities are planned.
The job plan would include flexible cystosocpy clinics, local anaesthetic prostate biopsy clinics, one stop LUTS clinics and haematuria clinic. The appointee would also have regular access to main theatre and day surgery theatre lists. The appointee would be expected to contribute to the oncall rota on a 1 in 10 ratio. The department is active in medical education, quality improvement and the appointee would be expected to contribute.

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) (proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview)
Experience

- General training leading to CCT (or equivalent) in Gastroenterology.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Expertise in local anaesthetic prostate biopsy
- Experience of day case BPH surgery
