Job summary

This vacancy is for a Medical Secretary position within the gynaecology-oncology department at Cheltenham General Hospital. The successful applicant will be required to work 30 hours, these will be worked over 4-5 days. There is some flexibility with the hours required which can be discussed with the successful applicant. This is a great opportunity and will provide the successful applicant with a sense of pride in knowing they have helped contribute towards patients care being managed efficiently on a daily basis.

Main duties of the job

To deal sensitively with patients offering non-clinical help and utilise experience and knowledge of specialist discipline to identify when urgent action may be required by medical team for the wellbeing of patient.

Provide secretarial and administration support with fast and accurate typing/distribution of all patient related correspondence plus support to secretarial team.

Highlighting to the clinical team members any results, correspondence or patient queries that need response and taking appropriate action.

Fully utilise all outpatient clinic capacity by reviewing new and follow up outpatient waiting lists.

To provide support to colleagues where appropriate to ensure the Trust service delivery standard is maintained.

Assist with secretarial cover during the absence of colleagues as requested to support the service.

Assist in the induction and training of new colleagues as directed by the Team Leader.

Tracing and sending of medical notes between departments to ensure they are easily accessible to support patient care.

To promote and share best practice with colleagues and peers to ensure highest standards are achieved.

To find sustainable new ways of working to maintain and improve the patient pathway.

To effectively manage calendars and schedule meetings

To book patients in for surgery in a timely manner

Undertake all Mandatory Training and participate in the Trusts Development Conversation (Appraisal) System
