Job summary

The Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital requires a permanent physiologist.

We are looking for a suitably qualified, experienced and motivated physiologist to join our very busy Neurophysiology team.

The successful applicant will hold degree level qualification in Neurophysiology and have post graduate experience. They will need to have experience within clinical neurophysiology across a wide range of specialist procedures. They must be registered with RCCP and a member of the professional body ANS. This is a full time position of 37.5 hrs.

The clinical staffing within the department primarily consists of clinical physiologists and consultants performing a full range of electro-diagnostic tests. The department is very busy and offers a very high standard of service.

Main duties of the job

- Perform Neurophysiology procedures either independently or collaboratively as appropriate, to the highest professional standard.

- Factually report all tests (there is no computer analysis for these tests it must all be done by eye).

- Write detailed factual reports on all tests performed ensuring their accuracy.

- Perform high quality recordings of highly specialised and complex test procedures including - EEG / SLEEP DEPRIVED EEG / VER / SSEP / CTS (these tests are not performed by any other department in the County)

- Obtain the cooperation, consent and maintain the dignity and rights of a wide range of service users and their relatives including - ADULTS/ CHILDREN / BABIES / ITU / SCBU / DISABLED / LEARNING DIFFICULTIES / AUTISTIC / PSYCHIATRIC /CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR / PRISON INMATES.

- Intervene / support other members of staff in challenging situations.

- Administer first aid, CPR if it becomes necessary. Aid the recovery of post ictal patients.

- Collaborate closely with other health care groups (eg nursing staff, ambulance crews, CJD surveillance unit), and non NHS organisations.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITES

- Use and maintain sophisticated complex electronic equipment, safely and appropriately.

- Utilise different pieces of electronic equipment to perform 1 test.

- Apply electrodes accurately to skin using contact mediums.

- Deliver electric shocks to skin surface in specialist tests such as CTS / SSEP.

- Repair and Chloride electrodes electronically for best recording methods.

- Sterilise all equipment between patients. Including following use on patients with Hepatitis B, CJD and other infectious disorders.
