Job summary

We have roles available for you to join our team as a Maternity Care Assistant in the Antenatal clinics in Cheltenham & Gloucester.

The Antenatal Clinics provide care to ladies with more complex pregnancies and those requiring extra monitoring. We are an outpatient department seeing ladies from early pregnancy until the point of delivery.

Maternity Care Assistants (MCA's) provide vital support to the Midwives, assist with Antenatal clinics, run their own blood clinics and are a vital part of our team.

We need someone who is enthusiastic, can work under pressure, with indirect supervision and has a keen eye for detail, with excellent communication skills.

You would need to be able to work at both Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals.

There are 32.5 hours available, on a permanent contract.

Shifts are predominantly Monday to Friday 8.30 - 16.30.

Main duties of the job

MCA's in the Antenatal clinics undertake varied duties. These include:

- Running clinics for ladies after their 12 week ultrasound scans

- Taking bloods

- Documenting events on paper and on multiple computer systems

- Assisting doctors with consultations and examinations

- Testing urine

- Taking blood pressures

- Preparing notes, filing paperwork, completing forms.

- Communicating with ladies and their families, potentially in emotional circumstances.

- Supporting ladies and families through difficult situations.

- Cleaning of equipment.

- Replenishing stock in clinic rooms and ordering stock and paperwork.

- Undertaking Carbon Monoxide Screening

MCA's need to be approachable, empathetic, caring and have good listening skills.

Accuracy, attention to detail and good time management are vital.

The Antenatal Clinic team comprises of Midwives, Maternity Care Assistants and clerical support staff.

We are a hard working but supportive team of staff who enjoy working and socialising together.

We aim to provide high standards of care for pregnant ladies in Gloucestershire.

We staff both Cheltenham and Gloucester clinics and you would need to be able to work in both locations.
