Job summary

We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and professional Locum Consultant Dermatologists to join our existing team of 6 Consultant Dermatologists for a fixed term period of 12 months maternity cover.

We are looking for a start date of 1st August 2022 working 10PA's

You will be a highly-valued member of our team bringing your expertise and skills in Dermatology delivering dermatological care to the population of Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job

The Gloucestershire Dermatology unit has an outstanding reputation for providing high quality dermatology services, with dedicated inflammatory and cancer specialist nurse support. Our aim is to deliver excellent clinical care and our professional, friendly and compassionate team will do everything they can to ensure that patients' treatment is of the highest standard. The Department of Dermatology also has a well-equipped outpatient unit with phototherapy equipment, along with facilities for dressings and minor surgery and patch testing.

The post holder's duties will be primarily at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations or outreach district general hospital clinics.

The successful candidate will require a dynamic, progressive approach to work in this friendly but challenging Trust. Excellent organisational and service development skills are required to meet the challenges of local and national waiting time targets, and high quality service delivery.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a full-time post (1 WTE) for the department of Dermatology. The focus of this post is to increase and enhance the ability to deliver Dermatology outpatient services across Gloucestershire. The post will be based at Aspen Centre, Gloucester, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospitals.

The dermatology service has a dedicated area located Aspen Centre. Facilities include clinic rooms, theatre and minor procedure rooms for skin surgery, treatment and diagnostic facilities.

Job purpose

The post holder will run outpatient clinics and/ or minor ops lists in the dermatology outpatient department, supported in clinic by their consultant colleagues. The post holder will also work closely with our specialist nurses, and will occasionally be required to teach our medical students and other junior staff.

Integral to the post, will be:

  • Ensuring the provision of a first class Dermatology service
  • Working in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Support Services Division or the Trust
Clinical responsibilities
  • To collaborate and work to maintain dermatology services in line with strategic requirements.
  • To provide, with the other Consultants in the specialty, routine and emergency dermatology services to the Trust, cover for annual, study and professional leave.
  • To provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialities in the Trust.
  • To develop a special interest to complement those of the existing Consultants in the Dermatology Service accordance with the priorities of the Trust
  • To develop appropriate services and techniques required to fulfillclinical needs, within available resource.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Dermatology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview) or CESR
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment

Desirable

  • Higher degree

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Dermatology
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management and care of patients
  • Practical skills showing aptitude for minor procedures
