Job summary

The Postgraduate Medical Education faculty is seeking a new Foundation Programme Director (FPD) to join the team. The 4 FPDs work collaboratively to manage and quality control the two year Foundation Programme across Gloucestershire. The post holder will work with local educators to ensure that posts offer trainees a comprehensive range of experiences to enable them to achieve curricular outcomes for completion of foundation training. Key working relationships include those with other FPDs, the foundation programme coordinator, the director of medical education, clinical tutors and foundation programme trainee representatives. The post-holder will be a member of the Medical Education Board.

This is an exciting time for Postgraduate Medical Education in Gloucestershire, with anticipated imminent developments including the Enhancing Generalist Skills trailblazer programme, a regional Endoscopy Training Academy, an Education Innovation and Research programme and Foundation Programme Expansion.

Main duties of the job

The Foundation Programme Director (FPD) is responsible for the overall management and quality control of Foundation Programmes consisting of placements across the Gloucestershire health economy (acute, mental health and primary care). S/he will work with the local lead educators to ensure that each placement of the programme and the programme as a whole meets HEE and GMC standards for training and that each trainee is able to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to gain the competences necessary for full registration and completion of foundation training.
