Deputy Medical Director

Department: Medical Directorate

Salary: £84,559 - £114,003 (to be paid at current point) plus responsibility allowance of £12,000 per annum

Hours: 4 PAs

The Deputy Medical Director term is fixed term for 5 years, however external candidates will be offered a role as a consultant within the Trust.

This post represents an exciting opportunity to become a key leader in the further development of the drive for our Trust to become clinically led and professionally managed.

Working very closely with the Trust's Medical Director, the successful candidate will be central to improving medical engagement and ensuring we achieve our strategy of Best Care for Everyone.

We are looking for an inspirational and ambitious leader who will work very closely with the wider management team. There will be an opportunity to develop particular aspects of the role depending on your interest, and to enhance your skills in preparation for a more senior management post.

Main duties of the job

The Deputy Medical Director will focus, with the Medical Director, on providing strong clinical leadership, promoting the development of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, the Deputy Medical Director will assist and deputise for the Medical Director as part of a collaborative, cohesive team and, when necessary, take lead responsibility for corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility.

The Deputy Medical Director will contribute to the overall strategic development and day-to-day running of the Trust and will assist in the development and achievement of our corporate goals and objectives, and the performance of the organisation in meeting them.

It will be expected that the Deputy Medical Director will take personal responsibility for a number of specific areas which will depend on their experience and interests and the needs of our Trust. These will be agreed immediately upon appointment but will change over time.
