Job summary
Gloucestershire Hospitals is looking for a new interventional radiologist to fill a role in an expanding team.
We are a large acute trust with the vascular hub for Gloucestershire and Swindon, a cancer population of >1 million, and a range of medical/surgical specialties.
The trust has recently prioritised 'imaged guided surgery'. Complex and acute work will be based in Gloucester with signed off and funded plans for a Hub. There will be 2 IR labs, 3 cardiac labs, and a 16 bed day unit co-located. A new hybrid theatre is also being built. Work on this is due to commence March 2022.
In the spoke at Cheltenham, we have just installed a new Siemens Artis Q IR suite with 6 day beds.
This ambitious plan reflects the progressive nature of our expanding team. In 5 years we have recruited 3 new IR consultants, started fibroid embolization and renal cryo-ablation. TACE and liver ablation is due to start early 2022. There is expanding vascular work with complex lower limb revascularisation, deep venous work and an established EVAR and dialysis access workload. To fund the expansion we have equally ambitious future plans to further expand the work we undertake.
We support a 1:7 24/7 IR on call rota with 5 full time and 1 part time consultant. Training is integral to the department and we have an excellent reputation. We usually have one senior IR trainee and are looking to increase this. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both of these.

About us
The organisation is forward thinking place to work that listens to staff and patients. There is a big commitment to Interventional Radiology, and an expansion of the diagnostic radiology department. The candidate will contribute to emergency diagnostic radiology service with one session per week.
Within the imaging department we have recently installed 2 new CT scanners on the GRH site, with one older scanner. A further 3 new CT scanners have just gone live at CGH. Three of the scanners have full cardiac capability (320 detector arrays). Cardiac CT mentoring in post is available.
There are 3 MRI scanners. We undertake a full complement of cross sectional imaging and can accommodate most specialist interests. We also work closely with the Cobalt Appeal (a local imaging charity) to provide additional cross sectional capacity. The trust is also invested in home reporting which has gone live this year.
In addition to being a forward thinking department, we are situated in a beautiful part of the country with easy access to the Cotswolds. The Cheltenham Festivals ensure there is always something interesting going on, with a wealth of things to do in the surrounding countryside. For families, Cheltenham and Gloucester have an excellent selection of state and independent schools with some of best Grammar schools in the country. Cheltenham is consistently rated as one of the best cities in the UK to raise a family in various polls.
