Job summary

General Practice Training Programme Manager (Previously called GPVTS Senior Training Co-Ordinator), Post-Graduate Medical Education

To provide comprehensive and effective management, co-ordination, administration and financial support, for the training, education and development of General Practice training within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the wider Gloucestershire Health Community on behalf of the School of Primary Care and local Associate Post-Graduate Dean for General Practice in Gloucestershire.

In order to deliver the above, a critical element for the Post-Holder is to be aware of and understand developments within Post-Graduate Medical Education, both Locally and Nationally.

Main duties of the job

- Responsibility for promoting the profile of General Practice within Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT) being the first local point of access for all, relating to the General Practitioner Vocational Training Scheme (GPVTS) in Gloucestershire.

- The Post-holder to strategically review and assist with an agenda of Quality Assurance, supporting Educational/Clinical Supervisor Recruitment and Retention and Post-Graduate Educational development.

- Develop, nurture and continually strengthen robust links and collaborations with GHNHSFT, Health Education England (HEE,) Gloucestershire Primary Care Training Hub (GHC,) Educationalists and all those in the wider Primary and Secondary Health Care Community.

- Provide expert management, support and guidance in relation to General Practice placements, out-of-programme experiences, opportunities and training for Post-Graduate Doctors in Training. Liaise closely and diligently with all major Senior Stakeholders within HEE and specifically School of Primary Care (SoPC,) GHNHSFT and GHC Consultants, Medical Staffing and all other external Agencies, Partners and Stakeholders.

- To contribute to the compilation of business cases, submissions, documentation and presentations in support of new projects associated with GPVTS, whilst monitoring, refining and reporting on all current GPVTS projects.

- Responsibility for the co-ordination of ensuring robust mechanisms for the quality assurance of GPVTS Education/Training are in place, ensuring collation of all in-house and external methodologies.

- Manage the GPVTS Administrator based in the PGME Department, only escalating issues to the Training Programme Directors/Associate Programme Director/Medical Education Manager as necessary. Post-Holder responsible for colleagues appraisal/ mandatory training compliance, assisting with workload and Administrators Health and Well-Being.

- Manage the Gloucestershire GPVTS placement rotations for Gloucestershire, being mindful and accommodating of Less than Full-Time Job-Share posts in both Hospital, General Practices and in the Community, whilst diligently managing Out-of-Programme opportunities/Career Breaks/all breaks in training.
