Job summary

Come and join us. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Peritoneal Dialysis Specialist Nurse Team due to expansion and promotion within the department of a Renal Transplant Specialist Nurse. We are seeking individuals with aspiration and commitment looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Renal medicine.

Peritoneal Dialysis is an expanding home-based renal replacement therapy. You will be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but visiting patients in the home is an essential part of the role, providing training and support, helping patients and their relatives/carers to gain confidence and manage their renal disease at home. Good assessment, communication and computer skills are also an essential part of the role.

Main duties of the job

To deliver directly and supervise patient care ensuring assessment, planning, implementation, training and evaluation of a high standard of nursing care.To manage a caseload of patients within defined clinical area.To act as a resource and provide specialist information, advice on Peritoneal Dialysis and relating issues on Renal Nursing care to the Renal unit team, hospital departments cross county, multidisciplinary members, pre-dialysis patients and their carers/partners.To attend and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team meetings making recommendations for future developments within the speciality.Willingness to develop an evolving service with a positive vision for the future of peritoneal dialysis in Gloucestershire.To organise own time and that of junior staff and students.To support the team in the management and supervision of the defined clinical area and Renal Outpatient Department; including management of Anaemia, Access, Pre-dialysis and Renal Outpatient attendees.To organise and manage a caseload of PD patients countywide and beyond county boundaries. Organise PD training time in clinical area and/or home environment.Organise home visits pre and post insertion of PD catheter, discharging from both Cheltenham and Gloucester hospitals.
