Applications are invited for two Clinical Fellow positions in Urology based at Cheltenham General Hospital. This post commences 3rd August 2022 for a period of 12 months until Tuesday 1st August 2023. This post will involve predominately clinical activities including outpatient clinics and diagnostics, ward work and theatre sessions plus On-Calls at middle grade level. In addition, there are opportunities for involvement in clinical trials and quality improvement projects.

Main duties of the job
The post covers ward duties in the form of a daily ward round in conjunction with registrar and CT colleagues, and supported by the on-call consultant. The post will have elective duties in outpatients and theatre consistent with the interests of the department providing a broad training in general and specialist urology. The appointees will also be involved in the recruitment and follow up all subjects for the departmental research trials.
Rota
The appointee will be expected to be resident on call in the hospital from 8am to 8pm and non-resident from 8pm to 8am on a 6-person middle grade on call rota covering Urology only. Prospective cover for colleagues is expected but all junior staff are specifically asked to not take leave which includes a weekend on call.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements: -
- To ensure the provision
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in these specialties
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Surgical Division or the Trust
The post holder Both sites operate a ward-based structure, in which doctors rotate between elective and trauma wards. This ensures the workload is spread evenly and there are predictable times in which doctors can attend clinics and theatres for their educational needs.
- Undertaking ward rounds daily.
- Attending consultant ward rounds as required.
- Admitting trauma patients when on-call
- Attendance at outpatient clinics and theatre as required.
- Requesting investigations/treatment for patients as necessary.
- Providing cover for colleagues in emergency and unforeseen situations.

As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients.

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment2 in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice including: o Make the care or your patient your first concern o Protect and promote the health of patients and of the public o Provide a good standard of practice and care o Treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity o Work in partnership with patients o Be honest and open and act with integrity
- Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 competences in surgery at time of application & CT/ST2 competences in surgery by time of appointment2, supported by evidence from work-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPS, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multisource Feedback or equivalent
