Clinical Fellow in Advanced Endoscopy & Gastroenterology

Job summary

The post is aimed at senior Gastroenterology trainees (ST6 or above) or CCT holders (or equivalent) and provides an opportunity to develop advanced endoscopic techniques such as complex EMR and ESD.

The post is suitable for an overseas applicant, and we have had several international Fellows taking up this post over the years.

Main duties of the job

The post consists of 50% service endoscopy/clinics and 50% training and development in advanced endoscopy and other aspects of gastroenterology that will be tailored to the successful candidate.

About us

The successful candidate will work in our respected endoscopy units that are home to the Gloucestershire Regional Training Centre and the Southwest Training Academy.

There is an opportunity to learn from excellent endoscopy trainers including Dr John Anderson.

Job responsibilities

The initial appointment is for 12 months, but this can be extended by mutual agreement.

Applicants will only be considered if they are able to perform independent colonoscopy (including level 2 polypectomy) and have JAG certification (or equivalent) for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP (UK) full diploma or equivalent
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment3 and hold a current licence to practice.4
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment3 in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice including: o Good clinical care o Maintaining good medical practice o Good relationships and communication with patients o Good working relationships with colleagues o Good teaching and training o Professional behaviour and probity o Delivery of good acute clinical care
  • Evidence of achievement of CT/ST1 competences in medicine at time of application & CT/ST2 competences in medicine (as defined by the curricula relating to Core Medical training) by the commencement of the ST3 training post (August 2011 or later), supported by evidence from work-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPS, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multi-source Feedback or equivalent, ARCP or equivalent
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

  • Awareness of the basics of managing patients with gastroenterology disease

Desirable

  • Experience in teaching or training
  • Endoscopic train the trainers course or equivalent.
  • Ability to undertake level 3 polypectomy independently.
