Overview
The GHNHSFT Fertility Service is looking to appoint a dynamic and experienced individual for the post of Fertility Specialty Doctor at our Cotswold Fertility Unit based in Cheltenham. The post will be based mainly at Cotswold Fertility Unit, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital/Cheltenham General Hospital. The contract for this post will be held by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). The post is advertised as part time 5 PAs inclusive of 1.0 SPA.
Job purpose
The Cotswold Fertility Unit is seeking to appoint a specialty doctor to join our highly accredited and well established service in Gloucestershire.
This is an exciting opportunity which needs a highly motivated individual.
As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities
- To be responsible for liaising with patients when they attend the clinic to that they have a clear understanding of what is being carried out
- To ensure that all necessary drugs are correct and to date, and ensure all unit policies are updated on par with the main IVF unit
- To complete patient consultation and pre-treatment assessment where required, ensuring that patients question are fully answered and they understand the procedure
- To undertake scanning for cycle monitoring when necessary
- To carry out clinical admin where necessary, ensuring that patient records are accurately kept up to date and maintained on file
- To support professional activity within the clinic and coach and support other clinical staff members where needed
- Maintain an appropriate standard of care and availability of expertise in the event of an unexpected outcome
- Assess and provide advice on the management of clients with medical or other conditions which may affect the treatment
- Participate in and co-operate with clinical audit activities and organisational research promoting a culture of continuous improvement
- Be responsible for updating your knowledge and skills through CPD

- MRCOG part 2
- Full registration with GMC
- Completed 4 years full time post graduate training (or equivalent) at least 2 in a relevant specialty
- Equivalent experience and competencies

- Distinctions, awards, scholarships and other degrees
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Clinical experience of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Previous experience of infertility management
- Ability to perform pelvic ultrasound independently
- Ability to take appropriate responsibility for the clinical care of patients and insight into when to escalate
- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- Ability to prioritise clinical need
- Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk

- Previous experience of working in a fertility unit
Research and Audit

- Understanding of the principles and application of clinical research including awareness of ethical issues
- Understand the role of clinical audit/quality improvement projects within service
