We have an exciting opportunity for a Radiology Teaching Fellow in Undergraduate Medical Education, post starts 3rd August 2022 until 2nd August 2023
Gloucestershire Academy provides teaching for the University of Bristol medical students in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the curriculum. Gloucestershire Academy became operational in September 2004. It is one of 7 academies providing educational facilities for medical students based in the University of Bristol. The Academy is based at Redwood and Sandford Education Centres.
This hybrid post offers the opportunity to be involved in the Medical Education of Medical Students. It is particularly designed to offer an extended opportunity to experience working in a radiology department prior to application for a radiology rotation.
The post involves one day of dedicated teaching radiology to medical students from the University of Bristol and one day working in the Trust radiology department under the supervision of consultant radiologists. The post holder will also take part in general teaching duties to undergraduates in the Trust. This will include bedside teaching, case based learning, simulation training and skills training. The post holder will also be expected to help with assessment of students (for instance in the yearly OSCE exams) as well as other teaching activities.
Main duties of the job
The undergraduate role of the post holder is as a teacher delivering radiology tutorials for medical students from Year 2 to Year 5 of the Undergraduate Curriculum of Bristol University. Teaching will generally be in small group tutorials. The post holder will be expected to spend time developing teaching sessions including e-learning materials. The radiology department will provide subject content support.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete a Certificate in Medical Education during their tenure. Support will be given in application to the TLHP course run by the University of Bristol as appropriate. Funding for the certificate will be paid by the academy. There is a very strong research commitment in the Department and the successful candidate will be invited to participate in research projects relating to their teaching commitments.
The post holder will spend one day per week in the radiology department. They will be responsible for collating material and hosting a weekly radiology review meeting with the acute medicine team. Time will also be spent shadowing consultant radiologists in reporting and interventional procedures.

- Registered Medical Practitioner with MB.BS or equivalent
- Qualified more than 2 years at start of post including completion of Foundation training. Competent in history taking and examination skills.
- Evidence of experience of teaching medical students
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post. Must be mobile and in good health.
- Willingness to undertake research
- Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the Department. To balance individual requirements against those of the Department and Trust as a whole.
