Job summary
Junior Doctors (St1/2 or equivalent) in Emergency Medicine from Wednesday 3 August 2021 for 6/12 months until Tuesday 2 August 2022
We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic Junior Doctors to join our team. We have an excellent track-record of success with our junior fellows. Many develop excellent portfolios from their time in post and go on to gain an ACCS training position. Without exception, our fellows have felt that their improved clinical experience and confidence has significantly helped them in planning the next stage of their career.
As an ED junior doctor (ST1-2 equivalent), your role will be in the initial assessment and treatment of the ill and injured patient as well as providing clinical advice to more junior ED doctors and ENPs, where appropriate. You will have the opportunity to be part of the Trauma Team within the ED and to be the nominated Resus or Paediatric doctor of the day. The clinical experience you gain will be diverse and interesting.
Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will be welcomed into our vibrant and friendly multi-disciplinary team. There is a strong emphasis in team-work in our EDs and we work closely in collaboration with the Acute Care Unit, Ambulatory Emergency Care and Intensive Care.
Trust doctors are valued members of the ED team. The SHO rota pattern was one of the first in the region to be compliant with the latest Junior Doctor Contract amendments. The applicant will be working alongside training doctors on this rota and thus enjoy the many advantages. Namely: only 1 in 3 weekend working, adequate rest periods and a maximum of 7 consecutive days.
About us
The Emergency Departments within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust receive approximately 150,000 patients per year making us one of the largest units in the South West. Gloucestershire Royal ED is an accredited Level 2 Trauma Unit, receiving the most trauma cases of all Trauma Units in the region. In addition, also within GRH ED there is a dedicated Paediatric Emergency area that receives ill and injured children. Paediatric attendances constitute approximately 25% of all our attendances. There is Emergency Medicine Consultant supervision from 8am until midnight, seven days per week in GRH. Cheltenham General Hospital ED receives emergency patients by ambulance until 8pm each day, after which the ambulance patients attend GRH. There is Consultant supervision in the ED at CGH until 10pm each weekday and until 6pm at weekends (where a senior trainee in Emergency Medicine is present until 10pm).
