Diabetes Inpatient Nurse

Are you a registered nurse with an interest in diabetes and want to expand your knowledge and skills in caring for diabetes patients? If you want the opportunity to develop your expertise in this specialty and be part of a well-established team we currently have 1 year secondments available.

Working alongside our multidisciplinary team you will play an essential role in developing the inpatient diabetes service.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an established Insulin Pump Centre, and we also deliver a joint Antenatal /Diabetes service as well as Adolescent Transition care and support.

We deliver a range of education programmes to patients, carers and NHS colleagues in secondary and primary care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will become a member of the Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse team providing care for Inpatients with Diabetes across both Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospital sites.

As a nurse you will hold NMC registration (RN). Experience in caring for diabetes patients within a clinical environment is essential in this post to deliver the role.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Manage, initially with supervision, a caseload of patients.

Demonstrate evidence based practice in line with current research and guidelines

Communicate effectively within the specialty team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary patient care management.

Participate in the implementation of a ward based education programme for patients, families and staff

Complete clinical competencies related to diabetes management.

About us

You will be working as a nurse within an established multidisciplinary team that includes Diabetes Specialist Nurses (DSNs), Dietitians, Consultants, and Podiatrists.

We will offer opportunities for development in clinical skills, leadership, and pathways within secondary care.
