Are you passionate about providing safe and effective, personalised care within the Community setting? Do you have excellent communication skills along with the passion to be a visible and dynamic role model with the ability to support teams of community midwives to deliver a high quality service, whilst ensuring the timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations?

Main duties of the job

In partnership with women/birthing people, you will support and lead your team by providing informed decision making regarding place of birth, whether that is at home, in our midwife led birthing units or consultant led obstetric unit, and develop mutually respectful relationships with both women/birthing people and colleagues. This ensures that all women/birthing people have access to the optimal birth environment in accordance with their choice and in line with evidence based practice. Midwives are consequently supported and enabled to practice in the optimal environments for all elements of midwifery care for all women/birthing people (and their families) to enjoy a normal birth experience. You should be an experienced midwife, able to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in line with the continuity of carer pathway.

About us

You will lead your team and facilitate staff to be able to provide a full range of health education, social care and advice to women/birthing people, liaising with multi-disciplinary/agency groups are to continually improve maternity care for childbearing women/people and their families, being responsive to the needs of the women/birthing people and obtain user views as appropriate. Supporting student midwives and junior members of staff as we guide and encourage them through their professional development, as well as receiving excellent senior midwife led support to ensure you fulfil your own personal potential. To have 24 hour responsibility for leading and coordinating the clinical, managerial and educational requirements for an integrated team of midwives and support workers.

To ensure the delivery of high quality evidence-based midwifery care, monitoring and maintenance of standards in accordance with the UK Law, Nursing and Midwifery Councils The Code (2018), alongside Trust and EU Guidelines.

To be competent and confident in all areas of midwifery practice and act as an expert resource in low-risk antenatal care, normal birth and postnatal care, able to advise other midwives and junior medical staff in clinical matters.

Ensure an effective 24 hour on-call cover and home birth service for a defined caseload of women.

To work in cooperation with other Team Leaders and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate use of resources across the service.

To deputise for the Lead Midwife/Modern Matron for Community based Maternity Services and the Birth Unit.

To effectively support and manage up to 3 continuity teams.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Registered midwife with NMC
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in variety of settings
  • Sign-off mentor/Practice Assessor
  • Leadership qualification - i.e. Edward Jenner
  • Further experience and knowledge of community midwifery/midwifery-led practice
  • Awareness and experience of research and audit
  • Awareness and understanding of risk and clinical governance
  • Able to act as lead resource for staff and service users
  • Understanding of ethics, UK law, NMC standards
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for innovation and delivering change
  • Excellent clinical skills e.g. cannulation, perineal repair, homebirths
  • Basic IT skills and TrakCare Competent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
