This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career in maternity healthcare and gain a healthcare support worker intermediate (level 2) apprenticeship.
Typical shift pattern may consist of:
3 x 12 hour shifts 7:30 20: 00 . Please note there is an minimum age of 18 due to this shift pattern.

Main duties of the job
The apprentice will be required to:
- Undertake delegated work of the multidisciplinary team to assist in the provision of individualised planned patient care under indirect supervision
- Use a degree of initiative to ensure patients personal needs are met, and the patients condition is reported to qualified staff
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment, by ensuring orderliness and hygiene and safety of the ward/department
- Gain competencies in skills specific to the role and department.
- At all times ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to patients carers and visitors and a kind, caring and professional attitude whilst considering dignity, privacy, cultural and religious needs is maintained.

The Apprentice Healthcare Assistant position is an entry role into the NHS and the first step on a pathway to a career in registered nursing and Maternity Support Worker roles as well as other professional roles.
To attend all mandatory components of the Apprenticeship Standard including:
GHNHSFT mandatory training
Apprenticeship webinars / workshops once a month delivered in our Education Centres
Ward / Department based observations
Competencies as determined by the line manager as relevant to the work area / department
Regular progress review meetings face to face with the assessor
Ability to get on well with people at all levels, communicate and work effectively as a team member
Accept designated workload to assist the qualified nursing staff, observe and verbally report on the continual progress of the patient
Ensure patient safety and assist them with their essential nursing and personal care needs including washing, dressing, drinking and help at meal times
Communicate effectively with patients (especially where their ability to do so is compromised), relatives and visitors
Have responsibility for personal development and complete the Healthcare Support Apprenticeship Standards within the time frame
Adhere to Kindness and Respect Behaviours to project a professional appearance in behaviour and manner of dress and always be courteous when talking to colleagues, patients, their families and visitors on the ward
Observe confidentiality and data protection at all times
Assist the smooth running of the ward by carrying out other duties including unpacking stores, tidying and cleaning equipment
Access and use of electronic patient record systems, intranet and email communications
Understand and adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures
