This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone with a desire to learn and develop their customer service skills with a view to beginning a career in customer service/business administration and gain a Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship.
Throughout the apprenticeship journey you will:
- be supported in the workplace by a mentor
- have the equivalent of a day a week off-the-job training to develop your learning
- be in regular contact with the Training Provider and the Apprenticeships and Careers Team
- have access to a virtual learning platform
- attend workshops where you will have the opportunity to discuss and share
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of the Speciality Team Supervisor, you will provide general administrative support to both the supervisor and the team of speciality secretaries. Duties include the collection and delivery of notes, incoming and outgoing post and general office administrative duties, including responding to queries from internal and external sources and the audio transcription of documents. The post holder will be required to work as part of a team and have a flexible attitude to work and provide cross cover during period of staff absence.
- The apprentice will contribute to the activity of the Trauma & Orthopaedics Team with a professional image of the department and Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
- The apprentice is responsible for helping the Trauma & Orthopaedic Team to run an efficient, high quality, safe service for patients by carrying out admin tasks throughout the department.

We aim to provide an efficient, friendly and high quality service for all our patients. In addition to the numerous consultant-led clinics, specialist nurse and physiotherapy clinic are also held and our plaster rooms provide a specialist service to patients require plaster casts braces and splits.
Our consultants also look after trauma patients admitted to our hospitals as an emergency

Key Result Areas Work in clinic prep area covering reception/telephone for out-patients (days/hours to be agreed)
- To undertake typing tasks as requested by the secretary supervisor or secretaries
- Filling letters and reports into patient medical notes within the department (or this may be required to be done directly at Health Records)
- Stuffing envelopes and sending out correspondence both internally and externally
- Request and return notes on behalf of the development, including using the electronically tracer system
- Taking/collecting urgent notes or requests to relevant departments in order to minimise delays
- Undertaking collation tasks when required, such as photocopying and distributing meeting paperwork, making up clinical packs, etc
- Undertake work when requested by the supervisor or secretaries as well as prioritising workload appropriately
- On the request from the supervisor you may be required to cover colleagues during absences/annual/sick leave etc. You may also be required to undertake job rotation for cross cover as well as for development and training purposes
- Undertake any other appropriate duties, commensurate with the role as enquired at the request of our line manager
- To report any incidents or accidents to patients, staff or visitors to senior staff
