Job summary

You will be working as part of the day surgery team in Cheltenham General Hospital delivering exceptional care for the patients attending the unit. Day case surgery is becoming more common, it now makes up approximately 70% of all surgery performed. In addition to the day surgery and surgical admissions we run both chronic Pain and Urology clinics where specialist procedures are performed as a day cases, avoiding the need to go to theatre. The patients will expect, and will receive, the highest standards of professional care by all members of the team who will be involved. The role is varied and no two days are the same.

Main duties of the job

To work in a clinical environment and provide a high standard of patient care, able to assess and prepare both major and day surgery patients prior to undergoing elective surgery either under local or general anaesthesia. Provide post-operative care to the day case patients and ensure a safe discharge home the same day. Work in both of the clinics alongside the specialist teams carrying out procedures. To liaise with the MDT, to ensure a positive patient experience and optimal surgical outcome. We are looking for the following skills and qualities in particular:

About us

We are a dynamic team that currently works across two day surgery/surgical admissions units and two clinics all based at Cheltenham General. The day surgery/surgical admissions units are fast paced and high turnover areas taking patients from a wide variety of specialities including; breast, urology, colorectal, gynaecology, upper GI and vascular. With the increase in day surgery patients we have developed exceptional skills with regards to early safe discharges of patients to maintain the flow through both the day surgery and theatres departments. Our nurses have a wide variety of experience and skills that they have brought to the team and this allows the whole team to expand their knowledge and skills across a variety of different specialities.
