Job summary
We are looking for an experienced cancer/specialist palliative care nurse to be seconded until the end of March 2021 to work with the current Secondary Breast Cancer ANP.
The post is banded at 6 or 7 depending on experience and skills.
We would like you to work 10 hours with us, with one of the days ideally being a Friday but how the hours are worked can be negotiated.
Main duties of the job
You must be experienced in helping patients with an incurable cancer many of whom have complex physical and psychological needs. Many of the patients are receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies and other treatment such as radiotherapy.
A lot of work is done over the telephone but attendance at some clinics and reviewing some inpatients is required.
As a band 6 you be closely supervised by the existing band 7 ANP
As a band 7 you will ideally by a non medical prescriber experience in prescribing in complex symptom control. You must be able to work independently but collaboratively with the existing band 7

You will be based in the Oncology Centre at Cheltenham General working with the secondary breast cancer Advanced Nurse Practitioner, breast oncologists and the wider team.

- To improve outcomes for patients by improving cancer services and quality of cancer care
- To liaise with the Breast Care Team, providing highly specialist holistic care to breast care patients with palliative needs and their carers/families.
- Lead the introduction of the Holistic Needs Assessment and develop Risk Stratified Pathways with Lead Clinician
- To act as a resource for junior doctors and registered nurses requiring specialist support and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of quality nursing care including across primary and secondary care interface
- To act as a resource for patients requiring specialist support, particularly for patients who have no site specific nurse specialist
- To act as an interface between medical practitioners, nursing staff, the multidisciplinary team, patients and carers
