An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Viral Hepatitis Team at Newcastle Hospitals. This position is a full time fixed term contract for 12 months from appointment of the successful applicant.
The post holder will be based from the Freeman Hospital with an expectation to cover all Hospital sites, Community Drug and Alcohol services, the Community Van and multiple North East Prisons. The post holder will be committed to the development of the service and the provision of nurse-led clinics (car driver essential).
The successful applicant will have a significant interest in Viral Hepatitis, with a focus on Hepatitis C; helping to support patients through their treatment pathway. The ability to liaise confidently and establish good networks across our Operational Delivery Network (Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, Sunderland, North Tyneside, Middlesborough and Cumbria) and partner organisations is essential.
The successful candidate will be highly self motivated, possess excellent organisational skills, demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and provide evidence of continued professional development. Comprehensive training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
As registered Nurse You will be responsible for supporting your Team and manager ensuring our often stigmatized service users' needs are met through delivery of high quality care. We work as Independent practitioners within a challenging rewarding environment assessing and commencing patients on curative treatment within a 28 day time scale.
We liaise with all practitioners within the hospital and community environments to ensure a safe comprehensive service user pathway.
As Nurse Specialist, to ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework, you with motivate and support colleagues, champion servicer users' dignity and safety and your safety, and endeavour to drive continuous improvement.

The successful applicant should have a significant interest in Viral Hepatitis C, helping to support patients with this condition and successful completion of treatment. Training and education are a vital part of the role. This will include medical, nursing and support as well as patients and their carers about their condition and management.

This demanding job involves in reach within the hospital setting and outreach within the prisons, Drug Action Teams and accompanied home visits. We treat all patients whom are diagnosed with Hepatitis C.As identified in RCN guidelines maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures As a practitioner you will be responsible for the safe custody and distribution of medications to the service users.
Following completion of treatment we arrange blood test to identify if the patients are cured. We also are trained to Fibroscan to identify any advanced liver disease.
We work with vulnerable clients who are often stigmatized by society. Good communication skills and phlebotomy skills are essential.
As identified car ownership and driving are essential for the role.
Our role also involves teaching hospital and community staff on Blood Bourne viruses and Harm reduction. We liaise with a multidisciplinary Team incorporating Gps, hospital doctors, colleagues, Drug Action Teams and External organization to ensure each patient receives the optimum care within their treatment setting.
