Job summary

We are delighted to be looking to appoint a 0.6 WTE Band 5/6 Specialist Dietitian (depending on experience), to work at Newcastle Hospitals within renal services. Working within the regional renal unit and transplant centre for the north east of England. We will be appointing at a band 6 or band 5 depending on experience. The progression from a band 5 to band 6 will be pending successful completion of competencies within an 18 month period.

This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your dietetic experience within a specialist area working within the already established multidisciplinary team. This includes both inpatient and outpatient work with the chance to be involved with service development and to gain experience in general nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant surgery and critical care.

The renal dietetics team is part of Newcastle Nutrition, an enthusiastic and committed dietetic organisation, and benefits from excellent support from specialist colleagues within many disciplines. You should have already gained post-registration dietetic experience across a range of areas in an acute hospital setting. Experience of working with renal patients is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided

Main duties of the job

The renal dietitians enjoy a high profile within the renal directorate, with excellent MDT relationships and support. They work to provide a high quality service to renal patients and are actively involved in research and development at local and national level. To deliver this service, some occasional working outside of normal hours may be required. The department is part of Newcastle Nutrition, an enthusiastic and committed dietetic organisation, and benefits from excellent support.

The post holder will be required to

  • Deliver a high quality dietetic service to patients within the renal service
  • Take part in student training and supervision
  • Contribute to research and audit
  • Work effectively as part of the MDT

You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated and will:

  • Have a broad knowledge of general dietetics
  • Be able to demonstrate ongoing CPD and have evidence of developing practice.
  • Be able to support colleagues and take responsibility for the clinical supervision of junior staff and students.
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be able to maintain good relationships with colleagues and the wider the MDT
