Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to work within our Stroke Service for 12 months. This is a Band 4 Associate Practitioner post, working on our Hyperacute Stroke Ward. It is essential that you have previous experience working as a band 3 and can provide evidence of this.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work alongside Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy team members to deliver a high standard of clinical care, which may include assessment within a specific remit and development of therapy treatment goals.

Part of the role will include admin and non-clinical tasks.

Attributes will include being flexible, reliable and willing to learn.

Skills required will include IT skills, Moving and Handling, highly developed communication and effective team working.

  • To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the wider team in the efficient and effective delivery of Rehabilitation in speciality area within the framework of clinical governance
  • To accept a patient caseload referred by a number of AHP team members and treat according to set protocols, monitoring patient progress, modifying and progressing patient treatment programmes as required, with referral back to referrer as/when appropriate
  • To carry out basic assessment and treatment of non-complex patients as delegated by the qualified team members
  • To provide and deliver individualised exercise programmes within speciality areas
  • To accurately record rehabilitation progress as per Trust documentation / database including physiotherapeutic outcome measures
  • To undertake a clinical caseload, without supervision for at least 50% of the time within protocols and guidelines set by the designated qualified AHP team member
  • To coordinate, supervise and teach junior therapy assistants
  • To be able to provide a range of treatment modalities including group exercise and education sessions, 1 to 1 clinic appointments, home visits and virtual sessions as required

  • Foundation Degree or NVQ level 4 or NVQ level 3 with additional training in the speciality field or equivalent evidence of underpinning knowledge
  • Full UK driving licence

Knowledge & Experience

  • Sound general education inclusive of literacy and numeracy
  • Previous experience as an AHP assistant/ Technical instructor in acute care community / related speciality
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical conditions and application of Rehabilitation programmes for patients in speciality area
  • Knowledge of a range of outcome measures
  • Knowledge of therapy specialist treatment adjuncts
  • Plan and provide clinical programmes of therapeutic activity within framework
  • Monitor patient progress and make modifications
  • Manage own caseload effectively and prioritise referrals
