An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Educator at the North East and Cumbria Transport and Retrieval Team.

NECTAR is a 24/7 service that is at the forefront of retrieval medicine. The team provides safe and effective transport for patient requiring interhospital transport for both paediatric and adult patients. NECTAR works closely with the regional critical care networks and forms part of a national transport network.

Main duties of the job

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver on-going education, training and support for all members of the MDT within NECTAR and regionally for both Adult and Paediatric specialities.

May be required to undertake a Team Lead role.

Contribute to the delivery of the Corporate agenda for up to 20% of the time.

In addition to the core components of band 7 Clinical Educator the post holder will:

  • Have substantial experience in critical care transport
  • Work clinically with all members of the team
  • Provide assurance of competence of skillset for practitioner staff
  • Contribute to in house and regional education
  • Lead regional education days
  • Create and maintain an in-house education program
  • Work closely with the critical care networks
  • Engage nationally with other transport services

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful post holder with provide oversight for both in house and regional education for both adult and paediatric transport. This post will involve engagement with both the Paediatric ODN, the NoECCN and the regions District General Hospitals to ensure a robust education plan for the design, planning and implementation of specialist education and training programs for MDT professionals in patient deterioration and transport of critically unwell patients of all ages. The post holder will also deliver and implement the training program within NECTAR, working closely with our Trainee NECTAR Practitioners and orchestrate a development program and provide assurance of competence for our NECTAR Practitioners.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identification and completion of regular audits to demonstrate compliance with Quality Indicators and contribute the Trusts Corporate education agenda alongside the current Trust educators.

The post holder will need previous extensive experience within retrieval medicine and have gained their transport competencies and be a practice supervisor and assessor. Evidence of previous education/ teaching experience / qualification will support your application. You will be accountable for assessing the clinical competencies of practitioners working within NECTAR and will be expected to engage with educators nationally.

  • The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver on-going education, training and support for all members of the MDT.
  • Identify all opportunities for themselves and others where learning can take place, both formally and informally.
  • Undertake a Training Needs Analysis and maintain registers of training as appropriate, support ward and departmental sisters/charge nurses to ensure mandatory training is compliant with Trust standard.
  • May be required to undertake a Team Lead role.
  • Deputise for the Matron where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Corporate agenda for up to 40% of the time.
  • Contribute to corporate training and education. May lead practice development initiatives.
  • Develop appropriate competency based clinical skills education and develop relevant competency assessment documents, for approval by the appropriate Trust Committee e.g. Clinical Role Development Group or Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group.
