Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the leadership team in Anaesthetics and Recovery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne as a Band 6 Senior ODP/Sister/Charge Nurse.

Reporting to the Band 7 in Charge, this post will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of the Perioperative ODP/Nursing team along with taking a lead on Quality improvement projects.The post holder will be required to provide effective communication across a wider multi-disciplinary team.

A contribution to achieving key performance indicators within the Theatres will be expected, along with supporting team health and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have a strong engagement approach and be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team is a busy environment.
  • The experience and knowledge of supervision with substantial experience of working in a perioperative environment.
  • The ability to develop advanced knowledge of perioperative standards.
  • Skills required to supervise and support the team.
  • An understanding of Trust quality standards, supporting compliance with Trust policies and best practice recommendations to ensure safe and effective patient care is maintained.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the unit manager to coordinate the department
  • Act in a leadership role, supporting members of the team
  • Maintain excellent standards of clinical care by acting a s a role model to others
  • Work in an MDT to provide person centred care
  • Support with theatre efficiency and productivity provide timely service to patients
  • Be an appraiser for the team, encouraging individual and team development
  • Take on Human Resources activities such as return to work and HR meetings
  • Effective roster creating
