Job summary

The Maternal Medicine team provide leadership on the identification, referral and management of women with medical conditions including the development of guidelines and referral pathways. We co-ordinate maternal medicine MDT meetings with maternity providers across NENC and ensure appropriate advice and care planning for the most medically complex women who access maternity service.

We are expanding our midwifery team to support delivery of the Maternal Medicine service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Successful applicants will be rewarded with a unique and varied opportunity to work across inpatient and outpatient settings, to streamline care pathways and enhance experiences for service users.You will work closely with the Consultant Midwife, Obstetric and Medical Consultants and be an integral part of the wider perinatal team.

Main duties of the job

Provide personalised, holistic care and oversee care co-ordination throughout pregnant and postnatal period.

Ensure ongoing 'universal' midwifery care while recognising medical complexity, prioritise important public health messages.

Listening to women and their families, act as the woman's advocate within the Multidisciplinary Team, ensure that care is wrapped around the woman and her family throughout pregnancy and the postnatal continuum.

Recognising the need for and provide additional support to women known to experience inequality in maternity care.

Participation in safeguarding processes.

Focus on positive expectations for pregnancy, birth and family life while acknowledging concerns posed by medical complexity.

Support access to planned care and medication compliance.Liaise with NICU/infant feeding teams to support care as required, focus on maternal and child relationships, provide support when infants admitted to NICU.

Support women admitted to medical or surgical wards, high dependency/ intensive care settings.

Engage with clinical midwifery teams across the Maternal Medicine Network to ensure care provision is as seamless and delivered as close to the woman's home as possible.

Promote and represent Maternal Medicine Services within the organisation, providing peer support to the wider perinatal team.

Consistently maintain high standards in the provision of maternity care and support safe, personalised, kind, professional and family centred care.
