Job summary
Porters carry out a variety of tasks including; patient movement, collection of all waste streams, delivery/collection of linen and many other important duties that require a great deal of physical dexterity and the ability to function in a very fast paced and demanding environment. Many of the tasks can be particularly repetitive and physically demanding. Please see job description for further information. Shift times will vary, you will generally work 5 days out of 7 to meet the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job
Please note that Porters new to the Trust are required to work on a flexible basis covering a variety of shifts which will include some bank holiday and weekend working. Staff are expected to provide effective / efficient Portering services using all equipment and resources available to the department. Primary duties will be to ensure that patients are transported safely between wards and departments, the collection of all waste streams, delivery and collection of linen to wards and other associated tasks.

- To provide essential Fire, Rescue Team response to Helipad as required.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate.The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.

EXPERIENCE

- Experience in customer service or customer care
- Portering / Security experience
- Previous firefighting experience
- Experience in portering tasks including Post sorting
QUALIFICATIONS

- NVQ 2 or similar qualifications (educated to Secondary Modern/Comprehensive School level)
- Full UK driving licence
