Nurse Specialist - Paediatric Haematology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated, suitably qualified individual to join the Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre and Haematology Unit based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary as a Paediatric Haematology Nurse Specialist. The post holder will play a key role in providing high quality patient care in a service which supports young children and adolescents with thrombosis, immune thrombocytopenic purpura and haemophilia and associated bleeding disorders.

We are seeking to appoint a Paediatric Haematology Nurse Specialist with relevant post registration experience for 18.75 hours a week who could work effectively alongside a small well-established team of Adult and Paediatric Nurse Specialists in the Regional Haemophilia Centre/Haematology Unit based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. This is a new Trustwide role and you would care for patients in both the out-patient, in-patient and also in community settings where necessary.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be using advanced skills and knowledge to care for young children and adolescents with complex emotional and physical needs relating to a thrombotic condition or their bleeding disorder. In conjunction with the Paediatric Haemophilia Nurse Specialists, you would be responsible for planned and emergency outpatients, administering treatments and the provision of education and support for inpatients within the Trust. Additionally you would be expected to advise and guide health care professionals in the regional hospitals and provide ongoing support and education to patients, their wider families and occasionally schools and colleges.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with patients with long term conditions and their families and the wider multi-disciplinary team are essential, as is effective time management

Some experience and understanding of haematological conditions would be desirable, but is not essential as full training and support will be provided.
