Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Newcastle/Gateshead Lung Cancer Screening Nursing Team (Formerly Targeted Lung Health Check). The overall purpose of the Lung Cancer Screening Programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to improve treatment options. Inviting participants aged between 55 - 74 years old who either smoke currently or have smoked previously for a lung health check and determine eligibility for a low dose CT scan.

Applications are encouraged from registered nurses who are caring, motivated, have high level of communication skills with a positive attitude towards service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, delivering Lung Health Checks (LHC) to eligible participants in line with nationally agreed criteria and standards. The LHCs are currently performed on phone call consultations. Face to face options are also offered if participants prefer or as a result of required reasonable adjustments.
  • Consent participants and order low dose CT scans, as appropriate, for participants attending a LHC.
  • Be involved in health promotion and deliver lung health education across Newcastle and Gateshead, particularly within hard to reach/deprived communities.
  • Work / travel across the Newcastle and Gateshead geographical area, in community settings, and in line with the project requirements.
  • Working autonomously as well as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Communicate effectively with appropriate teams to ensure safe and effective transition of participants through the programme ensuring relevant information shared.
  • Participate in data collection for service delivery, audit and quality surveillance.
