Job summary

As a Physiotherapy Assistant, you will be supporting a team of Physiotherapists to provide high quality care to complex patients with muscular dystrophies. You will be assisting with administrative tasks relating to the clinical service and other tasks required optimising efficiency and patient experience during and following our outpatient clinics. You will assist with coordination of our orthotics clinics and may be involved in data collection for clinical audits. Good communication and organisational skills are essential. Due to the nature of our service being outpatient-based and sees patients annually as the regional specialist team, direct clinical patient contact will be required but limited for this role.

Main duties of the job

  • Under the direction of the specialist physiotherapists, to assist with administrative tasks relating to clinical follow up such as referrals to wheelchair services, community therapy teams, orthotics etc.
  • To establish standardised referral pathways for local services to optimise efficiency.
  • Support provision of exercise programmes following assessment by the physiotherapists, gather useful resources and material for promoting exercise and an active lifestyle for neuromuscular patients.
  • Support coordination of the regional neuromuscular orthotics clinic including appointment booking, preparing clinical notes and any post-clinic follow up.
  • Coordinate referrals, provision and retrieval of pulse oximeter devices for overnight sleep monitoring; support result analysis and subsequent actions as required.
  • Support other miscellaneous tasks relating to day-to-day running of the physiotherapy team such as management of the email inbox, triaging phone calls, preparation for clinics including organisation of equipment and essential documents, and supporting physiotherapy students on placements.
  • Support collection and gathering of retrospective and prospective data for clinical audits.
  • If appropriate, assist with elements of clinical assessments such as collection of functional assessments.
  • Record time spent on administrative and non-patient contact tasks, to allow quantification of workload and future funding required for the clinical service.
