Job summary

Due to internal advancement an opportunity has arisen to join the IT Infrastructure team as a Senior IT Officer in the Network and Telecoms. The team are responsible for delivering and maintaining of a wide range of network and telephony technologies critical to the running of the Trust and delivery of patient care. These include a large Cisco campus network, over 30 remote sites, an enterprise scale Cisco firewall estate, Teams Collaboration, Unify IP and DECT telephony systems.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced IT professional you will work within the Network and Telecoms team, and wider IT Infrastructure department. This will be predominately with End User Computing and Server, however you will also work with specialist IT teams supporting specific areas of the Trust.

Working within a high performing team you will be required to work closely with third party and in house subject matter experts to provide 3rd/ 4thline network and telecoms support. The role also plays an active role in future design workshops, production of technical roadmaps, tendering exercises, evaluation of new technologies and proof of concepts.

This may be either over the telephone, by e-mail or at the desk-side. To deputise for senior colleagues, to define, install, configure, maintain, and upgrade a wide range of network and telecoms infrastructure.
  • To assist in the planning and development of data centre and campus infrastructure across the Trust with a view to delivery of a best of breed and value for money.
  • To lead on the physical implementation of network infrastructure throughout various Trust sites
  • To project manage technical hardware implementations and system upgrade, liaising with colleagues within the IT directorate and wider Trust
  • Provide ongoing troubleshooting, support and maintenance of product applications, including potential 24/7/365 on call coverage

  • Educated to Degree level in an IT related subject or equivalent level of experience plus significant experience in a third line network support role

Knowledge & Experience

  • In depth technical knowledge and expertise of IT hardware, network and communications, in particular Cisco applications and operating systems
  • Excellent knowledge of network architectures
  • Possess highly developed specialist knowledge in the following areas: o Router and switch configuration Next Generation Firewalls o Practical experience of building network infrastructure o Remote Access Solutions o IP based telephony systems o Maintaining and installing Wireless Networks o Troubleshooting, patching and upgrading network hardware and appliances o Network Access Control - Cisco ISE for example o DHCP DNS solutions
  • A good working knowledge of PC architectures
  • A good working knowledge of server technologies in an enterprise environment
