In this post, you will be expected to contribute to the general out-patient neurology at the RVI and support a specialist headache service. There is also a possibility to cover a local DGH covering general neurology and inpatient liaison one day a week.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent, less than full time (8PA) post based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. You will provide a general neurology service comprising elective outpatient and inpatient work along with contributing to the emergency on-call and attending service. You will take part in the provision of a specialist service in headache. There is also a potential commitment to a local DGH, covering general neurology and inpatient liaison one day a week.

The appointee will be expected to deliver a specialist headache clinic and a headache procedure clinic. They will also be expected to participate in the delivery of online group educational meetings for patients with headache and in the hospital and regional headache MDTs. There will be the opportunity to participate in the low pressure and facial pain MDTs.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the weekly academic meetings and will have the chance to contribute to the departmental teaching programme for the undergraduate medical students from Newcastle University and to contribute to the postgraduate training.

The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Department of Neurology in co-operation with the Head of Department, Departmental Manager and Clinical Director.

Essential

  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).

Desirable

  • MD, PhD or equivalent, with a subspecialty focus.
  • Evidence of subspecialty training in headache

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Training and experience in all aspects of Neurology.
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion for elective outpatient general neurology
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of in patients at tertiary centre.
